What you’ll learn
Supercharge Power BI Online is a structured, online training course that will help you learn to write DAX either in Power BI or in Excel. It is created and delivered by world-renowned DAX expert, author and trainer, Matt Allington.
Supercharge Power BI Online is a combination of self-paced remote learning using either of the Supercharge Power BI or Supercharge Excel books and pre-recorded videos, plus live online Q&A sessions for direct help from the instructor.
The structured part of the training and learning is delivered in a semester spanning a total of 7 weeks. Each week consists of:
- Weekly assigned reading from either the Supercharge Power BI or Supercharge Excel. (A free digital copy of both books is included in your registration.)
- Completion of the exercises that correspond to the weekly readings – this gives you hands-on experience to cement your learning.
- Pre-recorded videos available on-demand to review and summarize the key points and topics for the week.
- Live online 1-hour Q&A sessions (5 sessions per 7-week semester) with Matt Allington to answer any of your questions for clarification.
It is recommended you do the reading and exercises first and then use the videos to cement your learning. You can then prepare any questions you have prior to the Q&A session. You can email your questions to Matt Allington along with any workbooks used and Matt would take up those questions during the Q&A sessions. One of the benefits of this style of learning is you get to listen to all the discussion and questions from all the other participants. The Q&A sessions are recorded, and the recordings are shared with you after each session (even if you can’t attend on any given week). You can download the recordings of the live Q&A sessions and keep them for later reference.
Supercharge Power BI Online is built on an annual subscription format. Your registration comes with 12 months of access to the course materials, so you can refer back to the books and videos whenever you like. Even after the 7-week semester is complete, you will continue to have access to all of the course materials, the online support forum, and future semester Q&A sessions. Read more about this in the Frequently Asked Questions section below.

Frequently Asked Questions
I’m a beginner, is this course suitable to me?
Yes, this is a beginner’s course and doesn’t require any programming knowledge or prior DAX experience. Anyone that is competent in using Excel will learn what they need to know from this course.
How is this course different to the Dimensional Modeling Course at Skillwave.Training?
There is a lot to learn to be good at Power BI. You need to learn Power Query, DAX, Data Modeling, Data Visualization (to name a few things). This is not a comprehensive data modeling course. If you already know DAX and want to learn more about data modeling, please consider enrolling in our Dimensional Modeling for the Excel and Power BI Pro course.
Why is this course a subscription?
One of the key features of this course is that you get access to the private support forum and can attend the live Q&A sessions hosted by Matt Allington. Subscribers of this course can attend any of the live Q&A sessions for any semester during their subscription year. At the end of the first 12 months you can continue to subscribe and keep these benefits, or you can cancel your subscription and end your participation at that time. You will receive an email about 4 weeks before your subscription is renewed so that you can choose to opt out if you want to.
Will I get videos of the Q&A sessions?
Yes you will. Each Q&A session is recorded and the link to download the video will be sent to those registered for that semester. You will need to download a copy of the video file and store it locally, as the recordings will not be permanently stored online.
If I can’t attend a Q&A one week, can I still ask questions?
Yes you can. You can email Matt in advance and/or ask your questions in the forum. Matt will answer the specific Q&A questions, as well as good questions from the forum, during the live Q&A calls each week and you can watch the answers on the video in your own time.
When will the next semester (after this one) start?
There are typically 5-6 semesters each year for this course. The dates for the next semester are typically set and advertised mid-way through the currently running semester. Typically the new semester will start a couple of weeks after the end of the previous semester, but it can vary +/- a week or so. The tentative start dates for the upcoming semesters are given above.
If I get distracted, can I come back and do it later?
Definitely. This is a semester-based course, but your subscription gives you access to attend any of the semesters that run during your subscription. You will still need to register for the semesters you want to attend, but if you get distracted and “life happens” during the semester, simply contact us and book in again for a future semester during your subscription period.
The semester has started, is it too late for me to join?
It depends. The kick-off session (week 0) is the official start of the semester. Typically you can join the current semester (for the first time) anytime prior to the week 2 Q&A. There is an extra study week during weeks 3&4 which will allow you to catch up. After that, it will be difficult and we recommend that you wait for the next semester.
I am too late for the current semester, can I join anyway and get started myself?
Yes, you are free to join at any time. You can start the reading and watching the weekly review videos online. Then when the new semester starts, you can then join the live Q&A sessions and you will be ahead of the game.
